Andhra Polytechnic, Kakinada, one of the oldest and most prestigious technical institutions in Andhra Pradesh, was established in 1946 at Kakinada, the headquarters of the East Godavari District, by the Government of Madras State. The institution stands on a sprawling 29-acre campus, generously donated on a 99-year lease by the great visionary and philanthropist Sri Malladi Satyalingam Naikar.
The main academic block and laboratories became fully operational in 1955. The Polytechnic initially commenced with three core branches—Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Over the years, the institution expanded its academic horizons with the introduction of Architecture, Automobile Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Computer Engineering, reflecting its commitment to meet evolving technological and industrial needs.
The Polytechnic functions under the Department of Technical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh, with academic administration governed by the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET), Andhra Pradesh.
At present, Andhra Polytechnic offers seven diploma programmes with a student strength of approximately 1,900. The institution takes pride in its distinguished alumni, many of whom are well placed in reputed organizations across the country and abroad, contributing significantly to industry and society.
The campus is supported by a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty, most of whom are postgraduates in engineering, ensuring quality technical education and holistic student development. Students of the Polytechnic consistently secure placements in major public and private sector industries, reflecting the institution’s strong industry linkage and academic rigor.
In recognition of its academic standards and institutional excellence, Andhra Polytechnic, Kakinada is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), under funding support from the Department of Technical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
